Villars is a very popular family resort, with lots of comfortable places of accommodation. It offers many gorgeous Alp slopes as well as good time on the Diablerets glacier. Most of the slopes and ski tracks are suitable for every difficulty and can offer good skiing even for the thrill-seekers.

Skiing in Villars

Villars has proven itself worthy of the many tourists who come to spend their winter holidays there. As mentioned above the resort offers some amazing tracks and also perfect dining for the hungry ones. In addition it is easily reachable from Geneva, which makes it a desired place for the weekend. The accommodation in the town is located among the shades of the trees and offers best quality and comfort. The resort is very suitable for a family vacation and even many popular people go there to relax.
The ski tracks in Villars are very well developed and the off-piste skiing is also becoming very popular. Although the slopes are not very challenging, one can find extreme skiing on the glacier. The skiing area as a whole is not very large, but the Diablerets glacier adds perfectly to it. One must admit that the transport to the top of the skiing slopes is not perfect – there is only a cog railway and a gondola which are quite insufficient. But this inconvenience is compensated with the good ski tracks – 3 tracks, each about 2 000 meters long. One of them can be easily reached from Gryon – a village near Villars. As a whole there are 100 kilometers of ski pistes, excluding the glacier.

For a great skiing you can go to Roc d’Orsay via a gondola from Villars-sur-Ollon. From there via a drag lift or a chair one you can go to Grand Chamossaire (2 120 meters elevation) or Chaux Ronde (1 987 meters). You can also take the trip to Les Mazots and the Les Diablerets village, from where you can reach the glacier. Another option is going to Les Chaux, above Gryon where there are tracks for various difficulties.
There are also many options for off-piste skiing among the trees where you might also find some steep regions and little cliffs.
From the tracks there are many maintained paths for going back directly to Villars which is quite comfortable if you have children with you.
As mentioned above, if you are an expert you should not miss skiing on the glacier.  Nevertheless the terrain there is quite steep and a guide is recommended.

Getting There

As said above Villars is easily accessible from Geneva – you can take a train from there to Bex and then use the cog railway to reach the resort. The trip with a car is also suitable, a little longer than an hour.
