Pontresina tourist information & hotel reservations.
We warmly welcome you to visit Pontresina and wish you a wonderful vacation.Pontresina is located on six kilometers east of St. Moritz, 85 km south-east of Chur and 208 km south-east of Zurich, at 1775 meters elevation and just like St. Moritz offers some of the best hiking and mountaineering in the Engadine. Its long hours of sunshine during the winter and the easy access to all the noted ski sites in the greater St. Moritz region, make the resort an attractive alternative. Lying in the Upper Engadine on the road to the Bernina Pass, from Pontresina, one also has views of so called Glacier Amphitheater of the Roseg Mountains. Pontresina Skiing and Hiking HolidaysThe Engadine offers great hiking tours that mix rides on cable cars or gondolas with sometimes difficult hikes across rocky or glacial terrain. The most spectacular of these is the Diavolezza tour (reaching a maximum altitude of 2723 meters), which includes views of and hikes over as many as 2 separate glaciers. To access it travel by road for seven kilometers south of Pontresina, following the signs to the Bernina Pass until reaching the lowest station of the Diavolezza cable car and get on it for the spectacular fifteen minutes ride to the top. If you are going there during the winter, you can ski back down to the valley. Another option (only for experts!) is to can negotiate down the face of the glacier to the village of Morteratsch. Also, during the summer one can take a guided hike along the surface of the glacier - a tour that is recommended only for the fit and hardy, with proper equipment and only with guide! Another of the region’s panoramic attractions is Alp Languard, whose chairlifts will take one to 2550 meters above the sea, which ascents are continuous during daylight hours year-round. The area’s main attraction is Muottas Muragl - a mountain whose peak can be reached by funicular. The trip starts in Pontresina, where you take a bus that travels three kilometers downhill in the direction of Samedan to a final destination at the base of the funicular - Punt Muragl. The funicular ride needs fifteen min. to reach a platform set at 2414 meters elevation. From there one is able to delight the Upper Engadine Gap, with the mountain ranges of Piz Julier and Piz Rosatsch views. If the weather is good and clear one can also see the crystal alpine lakes between Maloja and Sankt Moritz. Pontresina TransportationFrom Zurich, via Chur, a train arrives in Pontresina one every 60 minutes throughout the day until nine pm. There is and a train again on every one hour from Saint Moritz. During the winter season a “sport-bus” travels between Saint Moritz and Pontresina on every twenty-five minutes daily from 7:30 am to midnight, tickets for which can be purchased at both - the post office or directly on the bus. For flights, trains and car-rental reservations as well as for buses, coaches and taxi ski transfers refer to the general Switzerland Transportation page! |
