Lugano transportation information. Getting there by train, car, flight.
By Air
The Swiss airlines provide air links between Lugano and Zurich on the Aeroporto Lugano, which is of Cantonal importance. Taxis await visitors at the Lugano airport, which ride to the downtown of Lugano takes about ten minutes.
By Train
Lugano is a one of the main stops along the railway that link Zurich with Milan. Trains from all parts of Switzerland arrive here at any time of the day and night. Lugano railway station, piazzale della Stazione is located in the center of the town, west of piazza Indipendenza. There are also many long-range trains that come from Italian cities – Como, trip takes about 40-50 minutes, Milan – about ninety minutes and Venice – five hours. If one’s luggage is not too much, you can walk to many of the hotels in Lugano, or you can take one of the taxis waiting outside the railway station.
By Bus & Car
Lugano is also linked by bus to dozens of villages in the Ticino that have no railway connections. If coming to Lugano by car, pass through the St. Gotthard Tunnel and continue south along N2, via Bellinzona, all the way to the town of Lugano.
