Engelberg

Engelberg is a perfect resort, suitable both for summer and winter holidays. The resort is located at 1050 meters elevation and grabs the attention with its Benedictine monastery, gorgeous mountains and fresh surroundings. Around the village there are cable cars in all directions and you can also find numerous places of accommodation.

Engelberg Switzerland

The skiing there is suitable for all levels of difficulty and you will like some of the tracks even if you are an extreme thrill seeker. You should know that the Gerschnialp and Untertrübsee are suitable for beginners in skiing (can be reached from the Trübsee station) and the Titlis is for experts. Titlis is a 10 624 feet high summit, reached by advanced skiers by taking the gondola to the Trübsee station. From there one should take the cable car to Klein-Titlis – the whole trip lasts about 40 minutes and offers some magnificent views of the St. Gotthard Pass, Lucerne, Interlaken and Bernese Oberland. From Klein-Titlis you can ski down to the Trübsee – you will pass the Rotegg lift and Stand. However one should be careful as the track is quite steep and has some sharp turns.
Most of the intermediate skiers prefer skiing only between Stand and Trübsee. In order to do this you should take the chair-lift to Alpstübli from where you can reach the Jochstock. From there you can ski down to Jochpass and Alpstübli which will prepare you for the Kanonenrohr. The Kanonenrohr has a section for intermediates and one for experts. If you like the run and want to go back you can do it by stopping at the Untertrübsee station and taking the cable car. The distance from Jochstock to the ground station is about 10 kilometers and from the Titlis – about 12 kilometers.
If you want off-track skiing you should go to the Laub, located below Titlis. It is a very extreme and steep 1 000 meters long drop, so you may need a guide.
The ski tracks may get crowded during the weekend as Engelberg is near Zurich and Lucerne and some people visit it only for a day. The area around the resort is amazingly beautiful – you can see 3 different mountain ranges and even Lake Lucerne if the weather is good.
From Engelberg you can go to Brunni and ski down to Schonegg. From there you can easily go back to the resort.
Engelberg is also a heaven for snowboarders with its 82 kilometers of tracks. You can ride the board on the glacier and if you are an adventurer you should try snowboarding from the Titlis peak to the resort. You can also pay a visit to the Jockpass Terrain Park. It is located on the Titlis glacier and offers a huge quarter pipe, some kickers and many different rails. In the park there are areas for every difficulty and experts will also like it.

As mentioned above, Engelberg is also a wonderful summer resort. Around the resort there are crystal clear lakes, snowy peaks and green meadows. You can explore the area either by using the 360 kilometers of well-maintained hiking trails or with the help of the numerous cable-cars. You can also spend your time with the various available activities – from cliff-climbing to wood carving. There is also a sports center in Engelberg with in- and outdoor ice skating, tennis courts, fitness, curling, billiard, table tennis and more. During the winter you can go on horse-drawn sleigh rides and from January to March these are quite common on Friday evenings.
