Appenzell is a popular tourist destination, attracting many visitors with its beautiful nature, surroundings of picturesque hills, rugged rocks and peaceful pastures. The village, which is also the capital of the semi-canton Innerrhoden quite resort with an impressive town center and a remarkable attraction here, is the open-air parliament square - the Landsgemeindeplatz.  Appenzell is a traditional Swiss village with typical, old houses and their magnificent painted facades. In the center of Appenzell visitors will find a great museum, with historical, cultural and folkloristic displays from the Appenzellerland region. Appenzell is popular among the cyclists and exploring the area on bike is a fantastic experience. Some tourist destinations of interest in the surroundings include the Alpstein area, Santis and Seealp Lake, the nearby villages of Trogen, Gais and Urnasch, as well as the famous town of Sankt Gallen. Appenzell Gonten Golf Course

The nearest airport to Appenzell is this in Zurich.
By train one can get to the village either from Zurich to Gossau, where to change for Appenzell (nearly two hours); or from Saint Gallen to Appenzell (~45 minutes).
By car: From Bern or Basel regions via Motorway A1/A2 Bern or Basle - Oftringen - Zurich - Winterthur – Wil, take the Gossau exit, then the main road Herisau – Appenzell.
From Schaffhausen or Lake Constance area via Motorway A4/A1 Schaffhausen - Winterthur – Wil, take the Gossau exit - Herisau - Appenzell.
