Aigle tourist information & hotel reservations.
We warmly welcome you to visit Aigle and wish you a wonderful vacation.Aigle is located about 13 kilometers southeast of Montreux, 415 meters above sea level. It is also at the east end of the Rhone Valley, at the beginning of the slopes of the Vaudois Alps. Aigle is the capital of a district with the same name, part of the canton of Vaud. In the district are located the settlements of Le Cloître, Vers Pousaz, and Fontanney. The town of Aigle exists from the time of the Bronze Age and it was very important for the Romans. Through it passes the Great Saint Bernard road, leading to the Roman capital. Around the 13th century the place became a large trading centre as it was a connecting point with Italy. It now is a beautiful town among vineyards with rich traditions and many cultural and historical attractions. For the people who are into sports Aigle has many things to offer. There is perhaps the best 18-hole golf playground in the country as well as other sport facilities. Due to its proximity to the Vaud Alps, the town offers many opportunities for winter sports. An interesting fact is that Aigle houses the International Cycling Union (Union Cycliste Internationale). This organization deals with overseeing international, professional competitions in cycling, gives racing licenses and manages the rules of this sport.
